Keynote speaker of the 17th International Conference of the Utopia Studies Society/Europe: Professor

Richard Kearney holds the Charles B. Seelig Chair of Philosophy at Boston College and has served as a Visiting Professor at University College Dublin, the University of Paris (Sorbonne), the Australian Catholic University and the University of Nice.

He was formerly a member of the Arts Council of Ireland, the Higher Education Authority of Ireland and chairman of the Irish School of Film at University College Dublin. He is also a member of the Royal Irish Academy. As a public intellectual in Ireland, he was involved in drafting a number of proposals for a Northern Irish peace agreement (1983, 1993, 1995). He is an expert on European philosophy and has written over 20 books on philosophy, literature and poetry. He co-edited his most recent book, entitled "Reimagining the Sacred: Richard Kearney Debates God", together with Jens Zimmermann in 2015. He is also currently working on several publications, translations and scientific articles. Prior to the USS Conference, he has participated in many conferences throughout Europeand across the world. In July 2016, he will honour us with his presence at the 17th International Conference of the Utopia Studies Society/Europe in Lisbon, where he will be a keynote speaker. http://richardmkearney.com/
